monkey acrylic painting

Monkey stirring up the water

Arturo Laime .  2013

This painting is based on an image I saw some years ago outside Iquitos city. I saw a group of spider monkeys (Ateles fusciceps robustus) jumping and playing together. Then I observed something that intrigued me. Near the pond that was used as a natural barrier for them there was a lonely monkey stirring up the water. He was sitting alone, playing with the small waves he created. I know enough about primates to recognize a strange behavior. Usually, monkeys avoid being in contact with a big body of water. After some time I create this painting, mixing the colors directly on the paper.
