OVERVIEW
Doppelgänger is an international artistic and cultural exchange project between Peru and Germany, developed in collaboration with AUSSTELLUNGSRAUM EULENGASSE (Frankfurt am Main).
The project is conceived as a transnational working platform that connects contemporary artistic practice, educational processes, and community-based forms of exchange across different territories in Peru.
The first phase of the project is planned for 2027 and will take place in Lima, Cusco, and the Amazon region of Pucallpa, bringing together artistic production, public programmes, workshops, and collaborative encounters.
Doppelgänger is not understood as a traditional travelling exhibition, but rather as an ongoing process of collaboration between international and local artists, cultural institutions, educational spaces, and diverse communities.
The project explores identity not as a fixed category, but as a dynamic process that transforms through encounter, collaboration, and shared experience across different cultural contexts.
KEY AREAS OF WORK:
- Collaborative artistic production between international and local artists
- Cultural mediation programmes and educational workshops
- Public encounters, talks, and participatory formats
- Situated working processes across different territories in Peru
The project forms part of a long-term international framework of cultural collaboration between Europe and Latin America, developed as a flexible, phased system of work.
PROJECT STATUS
In development / international planning phase (2026–2027)
CONTINUING AN EXCHANGE
Doppelgänger builds directly on Ritual, Faith and Resilience, the exhibition that first brought Peruvian artists to Frankfurt in 2025. Where that project introduced Frankfurt audiences to contemporary Peruvian art, Doppelgänger reverses the journey, bringing a group of German artists into direct contact with the cultural landscapes of Lima, the Andes and the Amazon. Together, the two projects form an ongoing programme of exchange between Peru and Germany, each edition building on the relationships established by the one before it.
